Does anyone in your house know where the water shut-off is? The furnace filter size? The login for the electric bill?
In most houses, one person knows. Usually it's mom. For years that was me. Everything that kept our house running was stored in one place, and that place was my head.
A home management binder fixes that. It's every page your house runs on, in one spot anyone in your family can open. Here's exactly what goes in mine, section by section, with the real pages so you can see them.
Tap each section as you add it to yours.
1. Home info: the page I'd make first

Utilities, insurance, account numbers, due dates. The plumber, the electrician, the furnace guy. Where the water and gas shut-offs are, the furnace filter size, the Wi-Fi password.
If something happened to you tonight, this is the page your family would need. You can get mine free here and fill it out in one sitting.
2. The calendar: your year, your month, your week

A year at a glance for the big dates. A monthly calendar for appointments. A weekly page for the day-to-day. Give every person in the house a color so you can see whose week is full without asking.
3. Meals and groceries

A weekly dinner plan, a monthly overview so dinners repeat instead of being invented every night, and a grocery list grouped the way the store is. "What's for dinner" stops being a 5 PM emergency.
4. Cleaning

One zone a day, so you're never cleaning the whole house at once and you always know what today's job is. Add a daily reset for the morning and evening basics. My evening version is the 15-minute nightly pickup.
5. Home maintenance

The furnace filter, smoke detector batteries, gutters, the dryer vent, the water heater. When you did it last and when it's due next. This is the page that saves you from the expensive surprise in February.
6. Restocking

Everything you buy over and over: dish soap, diapers, coffee, lightbulbs, batteries. Check it once a month and you stop running out of the thing you swore you just bought.
7. Money

A monthly budget, bills with due dates, and every subscription you're paying for. Ten minutes a month here usually finds something to cancel.
8. The kids

A profile for each child: sizes, allergies, doctor, school, favorites. A school admin page for teacher names, pickup codes and logins. And a babysitter's guide so anyone can run bedtime without texting you.
9. Health

Doctors, appointments, medications and insurance for every person in the house. If you're caring for a parent too, give them a page. Here's how I set theirs up.
10. Holidays and birthdays

This one matters right now. Thanksgiving: hosting or traveling, the menu, who's bringing what. Christmas: gifts, budget, cards, decorations. Every birthday in the family. Fill it out once and next year you're not starting from zero.
11. Travel

Bookings, budget and a packing list for every person. Especially useful if you're traveling for the holidays.
How to set it up this weekend
- Start with the home info page. It's the one that matters most if something goes wrong.
- Add the calendar next. It's the page you'll open every day.
- Add one section a week after that. Don't build the whole binder in a day. That's how binders end up empty on a shelf.
- Keep it where everyone can find it. The kitchen counter, not your nightstand.
If you want it done for you
You can build all of this in a notebook. But if you'd rather skip the setup:
- The Home Info Page is free. Start there.
- The Start Now Bundle is the printable Starter Binder plus my 2.30 System. You can print it tonight.
- The HAVEN Planner is every page in this post, bound in one book. It ships in early January, with a free printable starter month to use until it arrives.
Which section are you starting with? Email me at taylor@stepintohaven.com. I read every one.
